A Creative Gift Idea for the Holidays

A Creative Gift Idea for the Holidays is what I have for you today. Last Fridays post for the 2016 Winter Coffee Lovers Blog Hop you had a peek of this creation! I am going to show you how to create one yourself! It is a really cute little gift holder for hot chocolate in the example but you can use it for anything! Whether you use it for gift cards, coffee, tea, or treats… the possibilities are really ENDLESS!

Check out the awesome Winter Coffee Lovers Blog Hop we are participating in, check out my blog post HERE for all of the info and projects too! Lots of prizes, creations and amazing inspiration to see! The hashtag is #winter2016clh

The supplies that you will need for the Creative Gift Idea are:

You’re Snow Wonderful ACJwM Stamp Set

Decorative paper (cut to 7″ x 11.5″ – snowflakes)

Paper for the topper for the gift holder (cut to 3.5″ x 5.25″ – purple))

Paper to be used for the tag placed on top of the topper  (3 x 5″ (white)

Corner rounder

Scissors

Ribbon (White)

Ink (Black)

Stamp block

Hot chocolate packet

Scoring Board

1/8″ hole punch

Adhesive

This is the Creative Gift Idea that we will be making today. Doesn’t look like much, does it? When you take the bow and lift the topper off…..

You get an awesome hot chocolate holder!

I just love it. It is really easy and can be replicated for teachers, friends, neighbors, birthdays and so many other things!

So let’s get started. Take out your decorative paper, scoring board and topper paper.

You will be scoring the decorative paper with the long/wide side at the top of your scoring board. Score your paper at 3.25″ and 7.75″. Set aside.

Take your topper paper for the Creative Gift Idea and score it at 1.75″. Take out your decorative scored paper.

Fold your papers at the score line ensuring they are even and folded so they meet up to the edge of the paper.

Take out your adhesive. Be sure to use a strong adhesive. Many have heard and use what crafters call red tape. This would work great as well as what I used which was the Scotch ATG tape. Starting in the center of the bottom of your paper going to the right, place adhesive on half of the bottom of your decorative paper adding adhesive to only the bottom .75″.

Fold your paper in toward the center of the paper to the left and adhere to the bottom of the paper creating half of your holder.

Place adhesive down the left side of your paper from the edge to 1″ toward the inside of the paper. Place adhesive from the center to the left (at the bottom part where it wasn’t glued) ensuring you are not gluing the holder to itself.

Press down on all edges ensuring the adhesive has stuck properly and set it aside.

Take your other scored paper, the Topper, and fold it at the score line ensuring it is folded in half equally. You will then take out the sentiment paper and use the corner rounder on all four sides of the topper paper and two bottom sides of the sentiment paper. Take out your

Take out your ink, stamp block and You’re Snow Wonderful ACJwM Stamp Set.

Peel off the To: stamp and the From: stamp from the You’re Snow Wonderful ACJwM Stamp Set. Place the To: stamp on your block and ink it then stamp the sentiment on the left bottom of your sentiment paper to be placed on the Topper. Clean your stamp and place back on your stamp sheet. Take out your From: stamp , ink and stamp your sentiment onto the bottom middle of the paper to be placed on the Topper. Clean your stamp and place back on your sheet.

Use your stapler and staple on the left and right side of the Topper paper ensuring the opening is at the bottom and you are stapling the sides. You will want to staple at least .25″ – .50″ in but making sure there is enough room for the topper to fit over the gift holder.

Make a hole with your 1/8″ hole punch in the top middle of the topper paper.

Roll your ribbon small enough so it will fit through the hole on the top of the Topper paper. Pull it through so it is about half in front and half in back.

Carefully open the Topper so you can see the ribbon. Pull the ribbon through so it looks like this.

Using whatever item you are using on the pulley, measure to ensure that the ribbon is long enough and will fit the item you intend to use.

Once you have figured out the size of the item you wish to include, you will tie the ribbon. *Note: Be sure to hold onto the ribbon so that you don’t make it tighter for your item. If you do, you can always untie it and start over again. Trust me, I have done it a few times myself before 🙂

Tie a bow on your topper. I use the two rabbit ear way to do tie the bow with the ribbon because always turn out much better for me rather than the other way.

Trim your ribbon so that the excess is cut without any area hanging over your package.

This is what it will look like once completed but without your item placed in there.

This is what both sides will look like once you have created them completely.

Now  you will be putting your gift holder together! Take both the topper and bottom and place your hot chocolate packet in the Creative Gift Idea!

Your gift is ready for sharing with a loved one, friend, neighbor, teacher or whoever you feel you would like to put a smile on their face!

alena-christmas-ornament-wm

Hi A Creative Journey with Melissa Friends,

this is Alena with the ACJwM Creative Crew. My creation is a Christmas paper ornament. This creation is a combination of my love of Christmas and coffee. I just love that the sentiment from the Coffee, Tea and Wine – OH MY! stamp set created by ACJWM is just the perfect sentiment for my ornament!

winter-wishes-card-650-a-wm

This is my first of two creations. The first creation is a card I made using the Winter Wishes from our You’re Snow Wonderful stamp set. I used the Coffee is my Liquid Therapy  stamp set for the coffee sleeve and liquid therapy sentiment on the wooden coffee cup embellishment. I love how the wooden coffee embellishment works perfectly with the coffee sleeve! The paper was from my awesome haul from Michael’s on Thanksgiving.

hot-chocolate-gift-1-wm

My second creation is perfect for this time of year. GIFT SEASON… right?

FUN RIGHT? The ribbon is holding in the hot chocolate packet! You can create this too as it is perfect for those gifts for teachers, friends, co-workers and loved ones… And what about SECRET SANTA? Gift Card Holder Using Your Stash and Giveaway

Gift Card Holder Using Your Stash and Giveaway is what we have for you today. I don’t know about you but I vowed I was going to be done early for the holidays. First of all, I would like to say I am super proud of myself! I am 75% done shopping and am THRILLED! Creating this easy to create gift card holder is a great way to create something handmade because you want to show your loved ones you care. It is super fast too!  I came up with this quick idea and thought I would share it for those of you that want to plan ahead of time. I have a CAS way to create something from the heart but doesn’t take hours and hours to do SOOOOO let’s get started!

gift-card-holder-using-your-stash-and-giveaway-a

Here are the items you will need for the Gift Card Holder Using Your Stash:

Stapler (I used the mini stapler by Tim Holtz)

Stickers in your stash

Fall & Winter Holiday Sentiments

Washi Tape,

Adhesive

Card base

Paper for sentiment

Scoring Board

You can also add Bling, twine and whatever embellishments you wish.

gift-card-holder-using-your-stash-and-giveaway-b

For the Gift Card Holder Using Your Stash,

this is the first one I made as a sample. It took me about 30 seconds but this is because I did have the card stock pre cut. If you needed to cut the card stock, it would probably take about 3-4 minutes because it is pretty simple to cut a standard piece of paper in half.. If you know you are doing multiple ones, I would suggest you cut multiple ones so you have them on hand. It saves time!

gift-card-holder-using-your-stash-and-giveaway-c

Take your paper (Cut 4.25″ x 11″) and place it on your scoring board.

gift-card-holder-using-your-stash-and-giveaway-e

Score your paper at 5″ because you will need to fold this for your card to fold in half.

gift-card-holder-using-your-stash-and-giveaway-d

Score your paper at 10″ because you will need to fold this so that it holds your gift card.

gift-card-holder-using-your-stash-and-giveaway-g

This is how the Gift Card Holder Using Your Stash looks once it is scored.

gift-card-holder-using-your-stash-and-giveaway-h

Take the smallest area (1″ end) and fold up.

gift-card-holder-using-your-stash-and-giveaway-i

Use your finger or scoring tool and reinforce the scored area on your Gift Card Holder Using Your Stash creation.

gift-card-holder-using-your-stash-and-giveaway-j

Fold the area where it is scored at the 5″ mark and push down on the fold.

gift-card-holder-using-your-stash-and-giveaway-l

This is what the Gift Card Holder Using Your Stash creation looks like once it has been scored.

gift-card-holder-using-your-stash-and-giveaway-m

Take our your stapler and staple on both sides of the 1″ scored area.

gift-card-holder-using-your-stash-and-giveaway-n

Take out your stamps or your stickers and your paper mat for the Gift Card Holder Using Your Stash creation.

gift-card-holder-using-your-stash-and-giveaway-o

Adhere your sticker or stamp your sentiment on the white paper.

gift-card-holder-using-your-stash-and-giveaway-p

Apply adhesive to the back of the paper mat and adhere to the card base.

gift-card-holder-using-your-stash-and-giveaway-q

For your Gift Card Holder Using Your Stash creation,

take out your washi tape and rip off pieces for the front of your card. I used three. You can pick how ever many you want.

gift-card-holder-using-your-stash-and-giveaway-s

Adhere your washi tape to the card front.

gift-card-holder-using-your-stash-and-giveaway-t

Take out any other embellishments. I chose to add some rhinestones. Adhere your embellishments.

gift-card-holder-using-your-stash-and-giveaway-u

This is what the two Gift Card Holder Using Your Stash creations look like.

CAS – Clean and Simple! My favorite!

Create your own Cork Wreath Part Three: Technique and Finishing Touches

Create your own Cork Wreath Part Three: Technique and Finishing Touches is what we have for you today. We are going to clean up our wreath to get rid of our little glue strings that tend to happen when using hot glue and create a bow to finish off your wreath! If you haven’t seen our other posts in this series of three, please check out PART 1 HERE and PART 2 HERE.

But first… before we get started with the Create your own Cork Wreath Part Three: Technique and Finishing Touches,

I have an awesome tip for you thanks to my friend Sheila!

technique-and-finishing-touches-b

You know how when working with hot glue you have those pesky little strings… Well my friend Sheila told me of an awesome tip! Use a hair dryer or heat embossing gun and you will heat those little buggers away! I used mine (shown above) It works perfectly!

technique-and-finishing-touches-c

A BONUS TIP!

If you plan to have your wreath for a variety of themes like holiday, birthday, summer, etc. I would suggest you place some velcro at the top of the wreath so you can change the bows out rather easily. Using velcro will not only make it easier it will allow you to change them out without much fuss and make your wreath more versatile throughout the year! Now…. Onto the bows, shall we?

technique-and-finishing-touches-d There are a number of bows you can make. Here I am going to just show you three of them and another technique with mesh ribbon. Here are three of the ribbons I am using for my project. You can always double or triple the amount of ribbon you use for your bow creation as well as add multiples together for a thicker more full looking bow.

technique-and-finishing-touches-e

For the Technique and Finishing Touches, you want to start with wired ribbon. It makes it easier to bend and adjust and it will stay. You can use ribbon without wire but it does make it a little more difficult to keep the bow in place.

To start, you will want to take out the ribbon of your choice.

technique-and-finishing-touches-f

First, you will want to take the ribbon and make a loop like shown, This will be the front of the ribbon.technique-and-finishing-touches-g

You will then fold three loops, each being a bit larger than the next for the ribbon. Be sure that the design is facing outward so the ribbons decorative appearance is on the visable part of the creation. technique-and-finishing-touches-j

You will repeat this three or more times. For video and creation purposes, I only did this three times. If I was to make a large bow for a larger wreath, I would probably make at least six or more for a fuller bow. technique-and-finishing-touches-l

Cut the end of the ribbon just a little bit past where you have it held in the middle of the bow.technique-and-finishing-touches-m

This will be how it looks.
technique-and-finishing-touches-oWhile still grabbing the ribbon, you will want to place some floral wire or wire around the area in which I am gripping to keep the ribbon bow in place.

technique-and-finishing-touches-p

This is what it will look like once you have placed the wire around the ribbon center. technique-and-finishing-touches-rNow for the fun stuff! You get to fix the bow to make it fancy! You can puff it out or adjust it to your liking.

technique-and-finishing-touches-s

Now for the second bow Technique and Finishing Touches…

You will want to start with at least three different sizes of ribbon one larger than the other. The sizes I used are approximately 30″, 24″ and 12″. The fuller the bow, the more sizes and variations you will want to use. You will want to place your ribbon on a sturdy surface and folded in an awareness ribbon shape like shown. technique-and-finishing-touches-t

Take the ribbon and pinch the center. Take out the second piece of ribbon.

technique-and-finishing-touches-u

Fold the second piece of ribbon and gather in the middle.

technique-and-finishing-touches-x

Place a small amount of hot glue to the gathered two pieces of ribbon. This will be used to hold the third piece of ribbon in place.

technique-and-finishing-touches-y

Take the third piece of ribbon and wrap it around the center of the ribbon holding the gathered area in place. Apply hot glue to the end of the ribbon to secure it in place.

technique-and-finishing-touches-z

Trim the ribbon and adjust to beautify the ribbon for your creation,

technique-and-finishing-touches-za

This is the completed ribbon.

technique-and-finishing-touches-zb

On the third bow Technique and Finishing Touches,

take the ribbon you are going to use. Make two “rabbit ears” like you would for tying your shoe laces.

technique-and-finishing-touches-zc

Cross one of the ears over the other.

technique-and-finishing-touches-zd

You will then fold one of the ears over the other and push it through towards you .

technique-and-finishing-touches-ze

Pull tightly to secure your bow. Adjust your bow to the desired look you want for your creation.

technique-and-finishing-touches-zf

For this creation, we are going to use glittered mesh.

You can make a number of things with this amazing material but what you may not know, you can use a heat gun on it and give it a different look.

technique-and-finishing-touches-zg

It will melt the material and make it curl up at the ends. It really gives a great look for your creations. Play with it!

YOU WILL LOVE IT!

Thank you so much for joining us today for Create your own Cork Wreath Part Three: Technique and Finishing Touches. We hope you will be sure to stay tuned as we are going to be participating in an amazing coffee lovers blog hop with amazing prizes and awesome inspiration you will not want to miss!

We hope you enjoyed our bow creations and going on A Creative Journey with Melissa.

Create your own Cork Wreath Part Two: Putting it Together

Create your own Cork Wreath Part Two: Putting it Together is what we have for you today. We have a tutorial on video above as well as the pictorial below.

The original video was over an hour and a half long (1:48 to be exact).

In the editing process I sped up the time so that all you actually have slowed is when I am speaking with tips, techniques and suggestions. Everything else is sped up to not make the video longer. I really wanted to do this video so that you can see from beginning to end what is needed to be done. As I said in my video the wreath is not a difficult project.

It only takes about two hours of time for the larger wreath.

A little under an hour and a half for the smaller one. To find out exactly what you need to create one of the smaller wreaths, go to my first Create your Own Cork Wreath blog post here for info. Hopefully this will give you the courage to try it out! There are so many wine drinkers out there that this could be a great gift or even a great craft fair product to sell! Be sure to ask your friends to save their corks and you can TRY IT! Sooo… let’s get started!

Create your own Cork Wreath Part Two b

Here is the first of two wreaths that I have made. There are two different types of patterns I used to place the corks her

Create your own Cork Wreath Part Two a

We are going to recreate this one again for this pictorial and the video.

Create your own Cork Wreath Part Two c

First, be sure you have your wire or whatever you plan to use to hang your wreath in place before you start to apply your corks. This will ensure it’s usability as well as ease for the person you are either gifting it, selling it or even for yourself!

Create your own Cork Wreath Part Two d

The first thing you are going to want to do for the Create your own Cork Wreath Part Two is get out your hot glue gun, corks and a protective mat (Hot Glue Gun Helpers set including the protective surface Mat) Place your protective mat down. I placed my corks on the inside of the wreath for visibility. Plug in your hot glue gun approximately twenty minutes before you plan on starting. What I did was I got my glue gun plugged in and then I pulled everything out and got situated to get ready to create. It worked out perfectly!

*NOTE* You will  want to be sure that you have gone through your corks and made sure that you have enough to do this project.

I was so fortunate to have one of my BFF’s which I am also lucky enough to have as my next door neighbor, give me a whole box of corks that had been collected over some time. I was so excited I thought of a few ideas and here is one of them!

A HUGE thank you to ROBIN for the corks for these wreath projects!

Create your own Cork Wreath Part Two d

Once your glue gun is heated properly, you will want to take out your unwrapped wreath with the flat part on the work surface. The flat side will be the back of the wreath. It is important that you use the flat side so when someone hangs the wreath, it will lay flat on the surface.

Create your own Cork Wreath Part Two b

You will want to adhere corks to the wreath to essentially cover the wreath. There are a few different ways to do so. This is the first one. You can use this by itself (I would have been a little more careful, lined up the corks better and closer together so it was covered more had this been the final look of the wreath.)

The other way you can do it is the way we are going to show you in this tutorial.

There are a few ways you can adhere the corks.Create your own Cork Wreath Part Two p

The three ways I have done in this video are zig zag, directly on the corks and a long line. I have found the line isn’t the most effective when gravity is involved. The corks will slip down and I ended up doing more redo’s with that.

Create your own Cork Wreath Part Two l

If you use the hot glue line technique, it works great for when you are doing the circle around the top of the wreath when the cork is supported like shown. This was very effective.

Create your own Cork Wreath Part Two h

I would suggest the following as the best two to techniques to use for the majority of the corks.

Create your own Cork Wreath Part Two g

The first is using a zig zag line approximately two to three inches wide and almost as tall as the corks that you are using. This works well as long as you make sure you have enough glue on the area where the corks are going to go.

Create your own Cork Wreath Part Two s

Another other way you can adhere them is to place the hot glue directly on the cork in a thick line.

Create your own Cork Wreath Part Two i

You are going to start gluing the corks on the top part of the wreath going all the way around. Once you have used either of those techniques, you will then press your corks on the desired area. Complete putting on corks all around the top of the wreath.

Create your own Cork Wreath Part Two n

Next, you are going to put glue on the inside of the circle of corks you just placed.

Create your own Cork Wreath Part Two o

Place them all of the way around the wreath.

Create your own Cork Wreath Part Two p

The next layer so to speak of corks you are going to place is the inside of the wreath layer.

For this, you will want to turn your wreath upside down so that the back of the wreath is facing you. You can place a line of glue or I would suggest gluing each cork individually for the best adhesion.

Create your own Cork Wreath Part Two qYou will then place your corks vertically along the inside of the wreath as shown.

Create your own Cork Wreath Part Two r

This is how it looks once completed.

Create your own Cork Wreath Part Two u

Just to be sure that all of the corks have adhered properly, gently run your fingers around the corks. If any feel loose or fall off, reapply them. It can happen so just be sure before you start your final layer that all of the corks are in place.

Create your own Cork Wreath Part Two v

Now for my favorite part!

Turn your wreath back around so that the front of the wreath is facing you. Now you will be gluing corks in a random order to cover the top to give it a more 3-D decorated look for the Create your own Cork Wreath Part Two project. I have found it is best for you to individually apply hot glue to each cork. It helps with the random placement.

Create your own Cork Wreath Part Two w

Apply glue and place the corks in random order on the wreath, filling areas where the base wreath may be showing through.

Create your own Cork Wreath Part Two x

Add more to fill up the wreath to add more fullness to the desired look you are aiming for. Once you are done, this is where you would clean up any extra glue, glue strings, etc to give your wreath a great finished look. It is easier to clean up the excess glue once it has cooled.

Here are full pictures of the cork wreaths I created.

Wreath 1

Wreath 2

Wreath 2 (smaller wreath)Wreath 3

Wreath I made in the video (larger wreath)

Once you are done, you can add ribbon, berries, themed decorations for fall, Christmas, birthdays, even wine bottles and glasses! There are a number of things you can do. For next weeks tutorial I am going to show you how to tie and create a ribbon that will work perfectly for your wreath. I realize it may seem silly but there are different ways to tie a ribbon and they can have all of the difference in the world when creating a gift for someone. You will be able to use this technique not only for your wreath but for cards and future gifts too!

Thank you so much for joining us today for the Create your own Cork Wreath Part Two tutorial.

We are honored you took the time to visit and hope you will create a cork wreath yourself! we hope we have inspired you to get creative and appreciate you going on A Creative Journey with Melissa.

Create your own Cork Wreath: What you Need

Create your own Cork Wreath – What you Need is what we are getting ready for today. I am going to show you what you need to prepare to create an awesome cork wreath. With a little time and patience, you will be ready to create an awesome creation that you can give as a gift or keep for yourself!

Create your own Cork Wreath - What you Need a

What you will need

LOTS OF CORKS! (It obviously depends on how big your wreath is. I have about 500 or even more but you would rather have more than less!)

Hot Glue Gun Helpers Kit

Protected work surface or a Hot Glue Gun Helpers Craft Mat

Glue Sticks

Wreath ( I used straw but DO NOT USE FOAM or it will more than likely MELT with the hot glue)

Hot Glue Gun

Wire

Create your own Cork Wreath - What you Need d

First, you will want to get your wreath out.

Unwrap your wreath. Mine came with plastic wrap around it. You will want to carefully take of this wrap making sure you don’t cut any of the wreath. Once you have take off the plastic, you will want to look over your wreath to ensure there aren’t any huge pieces of straw or areas where it may need a little clean up. Remember, you will be covering this wreath so not need to make it look perfect.

Create your own Cork Wreath - What you Need cTo Create your own Cork Wreath, you DO NOT want to cut the plastic/ clear string that looks like fishing line. If you do, the straw wreath will fall apart.

Create your own Cork Wreath - What you Need h

Once you have looked it over, you are ready to add your wire. Be sure you have plenty of wire just in case you will need more wire to hang it wherever it may end up.

Create your own Cork Wreath - What you Need i

Stick one end through the wreath making sure where it comes out will be a good place to use for it to be hung.  If it isn’t, carefully remove it and redo it. You do not want it in an area where it won’t lay flat on the hanging surface or it will show unless you are using a decorative wire. Create your own Cork Wreath - What you Need j

Once it has been poked through, wrap it in a circle so it stays out of the way when attaching the corks to your wreath. Don’t cut your wire until you give it or hang it. This allows the person hanging it to have plenty of options and length of wire.

Create your own Cork Wreath - What you Need e

There are two sides to your wreath. The matte and flat looking side would be the back.

Create your own Cork Wreath - What you Need f

The glossy rounded side is the front. You want the flat side for the back of the wreath so it lays flat where it is placed.

You are ready to Create your own Cork Wreath!

Stay tuned for our next video showing you how to put it all together!

Now onto the Daiso Store Haul

So now we are onto the Daiso part of the Awesome Deals Shopping Haul. If you haven’t been to a Daiso store and you have one in your area, you will want to go. Go here to look for a store in your area. If not for anything else, go for the experience. I went to the Diaso Store in Gardena, California. From what their website said, they were the largest store in the Los Angeles area with 1415 square feet. They have so many cool things and not all from the Daiso brand in Japan although most are. I love their products and the versatility their products provide. This is definitely a think outside of the box type of place!

Here are the items we purchased on our Daiso part of the Awesome Deals Shopping Haul!

The group is SUPER fun with awesome creativity and inspiration throughout the year and of course.. GREAT SEASONAL HOPS with WONDERFUL COFFEE inspiration! We would hate for you to miss out!

Now, onto my projects! The theme is summer and of course… COFFEE!

I am a Midwestern girl that now lives in Sunny California…. One would think I would LOVE it because it is sunny 98.9% of the time… Well, I am from Chicago so I like four seasons… not one and half LOL! For me, one of the things I miss most of all is RAIN. I know I know but I REALLY DO! Anyone who really knows me, knows I like to dance around in my shorts in the rain. The thing is for me, summer DOES include rain and often times it does for most states throughout the US as well as some other countries. This is what inspired me to create with these stamp sets.

Thinking about my possible creations,

I knew I had an idea. I hoped it would work but couldn’t put it together. Often times I will ask my sons what their thoughts are.. well, I can thank my youngest, Austin, for this one! He verbalized what I was trying to do only MUCH BETTER! It really is a family business! If you want to read more about our story, go Here.

For my first 2016 Summer Coffee Lovers Blog Hop creation,

I used the cloud, rain drops and sun from the Weather Related stamp set. I used the coffee cup from the Coffee is my Liquid Therapy stamp set and the word Coffee from the Coffee, Tea and Wine – OH MY stamp set. For the stamp images and sentiments, I used Memento ink. To color the clouds, sun and coffee cup I used my Chameleon Pens. The light colors yet also the dark colors of gray making up colors of the clouds. AMAZING RIGHT.. all with ONE PEN! Those are the Chameleon Pens!! If you aren’t familiar with them, they are alcohol based pens/markers like Copic, Pro Markers, etc. but you can get multi colors from just ONE PEN! Check out my YouTube channel to see them in action!wm sunshine white

For my second 2016 Summer Coffee Lovers Blog Hop project,

I used a sizzix embossing folder on some left over die cut packaging. I cut it to ensure it would fit through the Big Shot, placed the acrylic sheet inside and away I rolled… And this is what you have! I love it and it is one of my FAVORITE techniques to do so I save ALL of my clear packaging. SO MANY USES! I made this card because I think we all can agree there have been NUMEROUS times that people have lived another day because someone has gotten their coffee. As the card says… Coffee  It saves lives. AND BOY DOES IT! To see a tutorial on this project, please go to my blog post here. We have both a pictorial and video!

Saves lives4 650 wm white

For my last 2016 Summer Coffee Lovers Blog Hop project,

I created a quick and cute coffee clip for a planner, journal, smash book, calendar, composition book and whatever use you would need it for! It is super easy to make and you can make numerous ones all at the same time! It’s a great idea for a gift! Everyone loves coffee, right? I used a cool product that I fortunately had some left as it is no longer made. It is called sparkle and fluff. That is what is coloring the coffee cup. It reminded me of some beautiful summer green grass…  and AGAIN IN THE MIDWEST and definitely opposite to here in SUNNY CALIFORNIA..  Where the grass is B R O W N! LOL Of course any cup of coffee whether visable or not always has a few little hearts above it, right? At least mine do!

Coffee Clip sm white wm

I am doing three giveaways on my blog! I will be picking three winners. I am giving away the three stamp sets I used for my creations; Weather Related, Coffee is my Liquid Therapy and Coffee, Tea and Wine – OH MY!. All you need to do is answer this: What electronic die cut machine do you have if any and why did you choose it? With your answer, comment below and I will pick three winners! They will be announced on our blog on Sunday, June 26th. Be sure to ANSWER THE QUESTION to qualify to enter. This is open to everyone, not only the US. Create Your Own Planner Journal Project – Part 5 – Binding with the Cinch Binding Tool

Today we are Binding with the Cinch Binding Tool. This is our final installment of our Create Your Own Planner Journal Project. This is Part 5 of 5 in the series. If you haven’t seen the previous tutorials in the series, you can see them below.

Part 1 HERE

Part 2 HERE

Part 3 HERE

Part 4 HERE

This video is a little bit longer than my normal videos as I wanted to be sure that you understood how the Binding with the Cinch Binding Tool was executed. Let’s get started shall we?
Create Your Own Planner Journal Project - Part 5 - Binding with the Cinch Binding Tool b

The supplies you will need:

Binding Machine ( I used the We R Memory Keepers Cinch)

Wire

Wire Cutters

Planner Journal Front

Planner Journal Back

Pages for inside planner journal

Create Your Own Planner Journal Project - Part 5 - Binding with the Cinch Binding Tool c

To use the Cinch Binding Tool you will need to decide what size you would like your binding to be. The easiest way to see would be to use the guide on the Cinch Binding Machine. It tells you how many holes you will punch depending on how large your project is. The holes will be the same number of rings you will need.

Create Your Own Planner Journal Project - Part 5 - Binding with the Cinch Binding Tool d

For this project, our project is five inches wide so we will need to take out the pin in the #10 hole because if we don’t it will only half punch the page and we don’t want that do we?

Create Your Own Planner Journal Project - Part 5 - Binding with the Cinch Binding Tool e

For the planner journal, we need 9 rings to bind it the way I had planned.

Create Your Own Planner Journal Project - Part 5 - Binding with the Cinch Binding Tool f

Take your wire cutters and your binding wire and cut so that you have 9 binding rings.

Create Your Own Planner Journal Project - Part 5 - Binding with the Cinch Binding Tool g

Set your wire aside.

Create Your Own Planner Journal Project - Part 5 - Binding with the Cinch Binding Tool h

Get out your planner journal front, back and pages. You do not want to bind all of your covers and pages together. There is too much thickness for the machine and it is not recommended to do the covers with the paper due to the different thickness so be sure to do your covers separately from each other and then do your pages ensuring you are using the proper number of pages not to overwhelm the machine. Since you have already pulled out the #10 pin to ensure you won’t cut a half circle on the edge, you are ready to  punch holes in your planner front. Be sure it is aligned on the left side and pushed all the way in until you feel a slight resistance.

Create Your Own Planner Journal Project - Part 5 - Binding with the Cinch Binding Tool i

Pull your handle all the way down and then lift up.

Create Your Own Planner Journal Project - Part 5 - Binding with the Cinch Binding Tool j

Your holes have been punched out!

Create Your Own Planner Journal Project - Part 5 - Binding with the Cinch Binding Tool k

Take the back cover out. Be sure to cover the ribbon you have used with tape as sometimes there can be some oil residue from the machine as well as roll it to make it a little thinner so it doesn’t get a hole punched in it.

**NOTE** If you are using your machine for the first time be SURE to punch paper a number of times so that you use all of the excess oil before binding your project.

Create Your Own Planner Journal Project - Part 5 - Binding with the Cinch Binding Tool l

In this case, we are going to line the ribbon up between holes one and two so that we don’t get the ribbon punched as well.

Create Your Own Planner Journal Project - Part 5 - Binding with the Cinch Binding Tool m

You have punched your holes!

Create Your Own Planner Journal Project - Part 5 - Binding with the Cinch Binding Tool nRepeat these steps for your inside pages as well.

Create Your Own Planner Journal Project - Part 5 - Binding with the Cinch Binding Tool o

Take out your binding wire. Place it on the wire holder on the machine. This makes it easier to put together.

Create Your Own Planner Journal Project - Part 5 - Binding with the Cinch Binding Tool u***SIDE NOTE*** You don’t have to use it as you can see,  you can also do it with your hand manually and that works well too.

Create Your Own Planner Journal Project - Part 5 - Binding with the Cinch Binding Tool t

You will want to place your papers in order before you bind them to ensure proper order. You want your front cover down first facing up, then your back cover facing up then you will place your pages. This gives you a nice clean binding look putting the rings where they connect together inside the cover.

Create Your Own Planner Journal Project - Part 5 - Binding with the Cinch Binding Tool q

Now you can place your project on the binding ring as shown.

Create Your Own Planner Journal Project - Part 5 - Binding with the Cinch Binding Tool r

Take off your binding ring project carefully. Carefully set it aside.

Create Your Own Planner Journal Project - Part 5 - Binding with the Cinch Binding Tool s

Set your binding machine to the correct size binding ring you have used.

Create Your Own Planner Journal Project - Part 5 - Binding with the Cinch Binding Tool v

Place your binding ring with the binding ring opening toward the machine.

Create Your Own Planner Journal Project - Part 5 - Binding with the Cinch Binding Tool w

You will want it to be lined up like shown up against the machine. Push down on the handle.

Create Your Own Planner Journal Project - Part 5 - Binding with the Cinch Binding Tool a

Your project is complete using the Cinch Binding Tool!

Create Your Own Planner Journal Project - Part 5 - Binding with the Cinch Binding Tool y

Here are the three Planner Journals I created for my sister. There are a number of things you can do with them. SO MANY IDEAS! I created these pages and cut them to size, hole punched and then bound them using the two different methods!

Create Your Own Planner Journal Project - Part 5 - Binding with the Cinch Binding Tool x

Here are the end results! We hope you learned something with this five part series. It was a lot of fun and I hope you share your ideas with us. Thank you for joining us and for going on A Creative Journey with Melissa.
