Painting an Unfinished Frame Adding Texture with Bubble Wrap

Painting an Unfinished Frame Adding Texture with Bubble Wrap is what we will be doing today. This is so simple to do and inexpensive, it almost doesn’t even seem fair that it looks so great! I love to create projects that are awesome for the eyes and soft on the wallet. This will definitely make you happy! There are so many different possibilities with this project and I can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Painting an Unfinished Frame Adding Texture with Bubble Wrap b

Here are the supplies you will need for the Painting an Unfinished Frame Adding Texture with Bubble Wrap project:

Unfinished Photo Frame (I purchased mine at Michael’s for $1!)

Folk Art Paint

Paint Brush

Bubble Wrap

Palette, Plate or Place to Place your Paint

Protected Area to Paint on or Washable Surface

Painting an Unfinished Frame Adding Texture with Bubble Wrap c

Take your paint, paint tray, brush and frame out. Add your paint to your paint tray.

Painting an Unfinished Frame Adding Texture with Bubble Wrap d

Paint the inside ledge of the frame that is NOT where the photo will be going. NOTE: I do not paint the back side of the frame. My reason is because if you are to place it up against a wall or hang it on a wall, you can leave paint residue depending on where you live and the moisture in your area. If you want a finished look, you can trace out a piece of paper and adhere or spray a fixative to avoid this issue.

Painting an Unfinished Frame Adding Texture with Bubble Wrap e

Be sure to paint the entire inside ledge as shown.

Painting an Unfinished Frame Adding Texture with Bubble Wrap f

Pull the metal piece that keeps the photos in. This will keep a little barrier between the frame and the work surface as it sticks out further than the frame.

Painting an Unfinished Frame Adding Texture with Bubble Wrap g

Paint the first coat on thefront of the frame.Painting an Unfinished Frame Adding Texture with Bubble Wrap h

This is what it looks like once the first coat is completed.

Painting an Unfinished Frame Adding Texture with Bubble Wrap i

Paint the outside edge of the frame.

Painting an Unfinished Frame Adding Texture with Bubble Wrap j

Paint the front of the frame for it’s second coat.Painting an Unfinished Frame Adding Texture with Bubble Wrap k

This is what it looks like once the second coat of paint has been applied.

Painting an Unfinished Frame Adding Texture with Bubble Wrap l

For the Painting an Unfinished Frame Adding Texture with Bubble Wrap, take out the bubble wrap. Place it on the front of the frame where it was just painted. Be sure it is still wet to allow the bubble wrap texture to show after it’s placement and removal.

Painting an Unfinished Frame Adding Texture with Bubble Wrap m

Press down firmly on the bubble wrap to ensure the design transfer and the paint lifts onto the bubble wrap.

Painting an Unfinished Frame Adding Texture with Bubble Wrap n

Carefully remove the bubble wrap.

Painting an Unfinished Frame Adding Texture with Bubble Wrap o

This is what it looks like once the bubble wrap has been removed.

Painting an Unfinished Frame Adding Texture with Bubble Wrap p

Here is a closer look to what the design is that the bubble wrap left upon removal.

Your Painting an Unfinished Frame Adding Texture with Bubble Wrap project is COMPLETE! This was super fast, inexpensive and CUTE! Thank you for joining us for this tutorial today and we hope you enjoyed going on A Creative Journey with Melissa.

She is going to be featured in a magazine in the spring. I will update this post once it has been published but here you are getting your very own sneak peek!

Below is a pictorial of what Linda did with the demonstration for us at CHA. For more details, check out the video above.

First, add water to your concrete ensuring it is mixed thoroughly.

Concrete Crafts with Linda Swingle

Using vegetable oil, prepare the inside of the molds to allow for it’s release upon drying.

Concrete Crafts with Linda Swingle b

Add your concrete to your mold.

Concrete Crafts with Linda Swingle c

Want to add some color to your concrete? Add the tinting powder, mix and pour it into the prepared mold. It’s just that easy!

Concrete Crafts with Linda Swingle f

If you would like to paint your creation, I would suggest you allow it to dry overnight if it is a very thick item if it is smaller like the molds shown, 1-2 hours should work well but use your best judgement as it varies with the amount of concrete/water ratio and how long dry time is.

Here are some of the other amazing creations Linda has made using concrete.

Refilling Your Chameleon Pens Mixing Chamber with Colorless Blender Solution

Refilling Your Chameleon Pens Mixing Chamber with Colorless Blender Solution is what we are doing today. I don’t know about you but I LOVE MY CHAMELEON PENS!! I love how they are compact, refillable. and basically as I call them- A FOREVER PEN! I love to play with different color palettes and create different dimension with them as well. If you haven’t tried them yet, be sure to visit your Local Scrapbook Store or your Local Stamp Store (LSS) to see if they have them in so that you can see them in person! They are so much fun to play with… You won’t want to miss out!

Whether you like a video tutorial or a pictorial, we have you covered! Let’s get started with the tutorial!

Refilling Your Chameleon Pens Mixing Chamber with Colorless Blender Solution Supplies

Supplies You Will Need:

Your CB (Colorless Blender) Ink Refill Kit

*Included in each Ink Refill Kit: Ink, Syringe, and the Refill Tool (needle)

Chameleon Tweezers

Chameleon Pens

Protected Surface or something to protect your work surface

Refilling Your Chameleon Pens Mixing Chamber with Colorless Blender Solution a

Open your Ink Refill Kit and take out your Syringe, needle/applicator and ink/solution.

Refilling Your Chameleon Pens Mixing Chamber with Colorless Blender Solution dOpen your pens mixing chamber. Set the colored ink side of the pen aside leaving you with the mixing chamber and nib. Set aside the mixing chamber while you prepare your syringe with the colorless blender.

Refilling Your Chameleon Pens Mixing Chamber with Colorless Blender Solution eYou do not want to overfill your pens. Only fill your pens one milliliter at a time. This would be at the “1” mark on your syringe.
Refilling Your Chameleon Pens Mixing Chamber with Colorless Blender Solution gTake out your Colorless Blender Solution. Open it and set the cap aside. Take out your ink applicator/needle. Take off the protective cap. Set the cap aside.

Refilling Your Chameleon Pens Mixing Chamber with Colorless Blender Solution h

Place the applicator/needle on the syringe.

Refilling Your Chameleon Pens Mixing Chamber with Colorless Blender Solution iEnsuring that the syringe is pushed all of the way to the bottom so all liquid and air is gone, place your syringe in the colorless blending solution bottle. Pull back on the syringe plunger until the bottom of the black tip of the plunger is at the “1” mark for one milliliter.

Refilling Your Chameleon Pens Mixing Chamber with Colorless Blender Solution j

Here is a close up picture.

Refilling Your Chameleon Pens Mixing Chamber with Colorless Blender Solution k

Take out your Chameleon Tweezers. Using your Chameleon Tweezers, carefully pull out your Blending Chamber nib.

Refilling Your Chameleon Pens Mixing Chamber with Colorless Blender Solution l

Once you take the nib out, set it aside on a clean, protected surface.

Refilling Your Chameleon Pens Mixing Chamber with Colorless Blender Solution m

When Refilling Your Chameleon Pens Mixing Chamber with Colorless Blender Solution; Here is a close up of the Blending Chamber. The square inside is where you will place the applicator/needle.

Refilling Your Chameleon Pens Mixing Chamber with Colorless Blender Solution n

Once you put your applicator/needle inside the chamber you will feel a little bit of resistance. This is NORMAL. Push the needle/applicator a little bit further to ensure the solution is being place inside the chamber.

Refilling Your Chameleon Pens Mixing Chamber with Colorless Blender Solution o

Push the plunger all of the way down transferring the blender solution into the blending chamber. Remove the syringe.

Refilling Your Chameleon Pens Mixing Chamber with Colorless Blender Solution q

Pick up your nib and return your nib back to the blending chamber with your Chameleon Tweezers making sure it is completely seated in the mixing chamber.

Refilling Your Chameleon Pens Mixing Chamber with Colorless Blender Solution r

To verify the nib is properly secured in the mixing chamber, take off one cap off of your ink side of your pen.

Refilling Your Chameleon Pens Mixing Chamber with Colorless Blender Solution s

Place the mixing chamber on the nib as you would if you were to color, ensuring that the two nibs “kiss” allowing the transfer of blender solution.

YOU DID IT! You have officially added your Colorless Blender Solution to your Chameleon Pen!

We hope you enjoyed today’s tutorial and appreciate you spending time with us! We hope you will share your Chameleon Pen projects with us and we hope you enjoyed going on A Creative Journey with Melissa.

Coloring Therapy with Chameleon Markers

Coloring Therapy with Chameleon Markers is what we are doing today. First, I want to announce the winner of the five pack of Earth Tones Chameleon Pens…… Drum roll……… The winner is Marilyn! Marilyn, please contact me with your mailing information and I will get your prize out to you!  Now, back to our regularly scheduled program… LOL! So, who doesn’t love to color? Even when I was a kid I loved to color with crayons, markers, pencils and anything I could get my hands on. In this tutorial you will see how I use the markers to show depth by coloring some flower petals.  *NOTE* In error I said there were 50 more Chameleon Pen colors coming out in the video. There will be 50 total colors (30 new colors)! The five packs to add to your collection will be available April. The complete pack of 52 will be available in September. I apologize for my error :/
Soooo… Let’s get started!

Coloring Therapy with Chameleon Markers

Supplies Needed

Petals for You Stamp Set

Paper

Black Memento Ink

Chameleon Markers

Coloring Therapy with Chameleon Markers a

I wasn’t sure what exactly my creativity was going to lead me to today so I picked these colors to start with.

Coloring Therapy with Chameleon Markers b

I decided to start with OL3. I took my brush nib pen cap off and placed the blending solution chamber on top. Be sure it is placed securely onto the brush nib side.

Coloring Therapy with Chameleon Markers c

Once it is secure, you will see the blending solution nib on the left and the brush nib on the right “kissing”. You want to be sure they are “kissing” so the blending solution transfers to the brush nib.

Coloring Therapy with Chameleon Markers d

Hold your pen upright for 5-10 seconds depending on how light you want to start out. The lighter to start with, the longer you will want to do this.

Coloring Therapy with Chameleon Markers e

Remove the cap and start coloring. As you can see the color is barely visable.

Coloring Therapy with Chameleon Markers f

As I continue to color, you will see how the blending solution starts to go on the paper and then as it is used, more of the pigment comes through.

Coloring Therapy with Chameleon Markers g

You then have the full color showing here at the end of the petal.

Coloring Therapy with Chameleon Markers h

Here is the finished colored petal.

Coloring Therapy with Chameleon Markers i

Here are some close up shot to show you more detail.

Coloring Therapy with Chameleon Markers j

I then colored the other side with the same way.

Coloring Therapy with Chameleon Markers k

Here is a close up shot of both petals.

Coloring Therapy with Chameleon Markers m

I then colored using two different yellows YO3 and YL2. As you can see the YL2 needed more blending solution than the YO3. Lesson learned…. Sometimes it’s trial and error when you are trying to get a specific color you may find you need to add or subtract blending solution. You may even need to add another layer of color to darken the area you want color on.

Thank you for joining us for our tutorial today. We are going to have a giveaway! The giveaway is an awesome Art Bin pouch with a lanyard. These are a VERY HOT ITEM at the CHA SHOW every year and always run out!! As a matter of fact, I went to that booth first just to get one! This pouch is PERFECT for traveling to hold your passport, identification and even has a space for pens… YOUR CHAMELEON PENS, RIGHT? In order to qualify, you will need to comment on here what type of things you would like to color with chameleon markers. Do you like to color doodles, flowers, people, animals or everything? Leave your answer on this post and the winner will be announced next Monday.

We hope you have a great day and enjoyed going on A Creative Journey with Melissa.

CHA 2016 Chameleon Pen Demo and Five Pack Pen Giveaway

CHA 2016 Chameleon Pen Demo and Five Pack Pen Giveaway is what we are doing today! The amazing Julia from Chameleon Pens gave a great demo at CHA and I thought you would like to check it out. Not only does it explain the markers well but also at the new colors they are introducing! First, I would like to announce the winner of the one of a kind Becky Higgins Autographed card. The winner is Jessica Marshall! Jessica, please contact me with your mailing info and I will get that out to you this week!

Now back to the CHA 2016 Chameleon Pen Demo and Five Pack Pen Giveaway! In this tutorial Julia from Chameleon gives you a peek at the new colors in action as well as some coloring techniques!! I am really excited that they have added more grays and color tones that will help with more specific bright colors, skin and shading. Although the original set is awesome, the extra added colors I think really round out the set to make it absolutely complete! The tutorial is approximately 35 minutes long. It is a bit longer than my normal videos however, I think the information given is important and worth every minute!

When watching the CHA 2016 Chameleon Pen Demo and Five Pack Pen Giveaway video. Here are a few pointers that I found very helpful and informative. When we were videoing using the mirror so you can see the details of the video. The graphics are seen backwards due to the mirror.

  • When opening your pen, be sure to color with it to release the shipping material protectant. It does have an added material to protect the Japanese nib during shipment so you want to be sure that you use it before you work on your project. By using your pen, it will release the protectant so there isn’t anything you have to manually take off.
  • You are able to use copy paper when coloring because you aren’t layering color on top of color. Typically you are just blending with the various shaded colors because you have already mixed your blending solution with your ink. If you plan to use more than one layer or plan to saturate your coloring area, it is suggested you use at least 110 lb weight paper.
  • The longer you keep your blending solution cartridge in contact with your colored nib, the longer your blend will last. Typically the most amount of time used in Julia’s experience is 10 seconds.
  • Be sure to have some scratch paper so that you can test your color off to the side ensuring that your blending worked as you had planned for.
  • Be sure to have your pens vertically when fusing so that the blending solution does reach the colored nib.
  • Store your pens flat.
  • You can use these markers as you would with any other alcohol markers.
  • Memento is the ink of choice to use on paper.
  • If you are going to use your ink on another material, the ink of choice is the Memento Luxe.

Here are some pics of the results taken from the demo in the video.

CHA 2016 Chameleon Pen Demo and Five Pack Pen Giveaway

On the left is coloring without blending and on the right is the blending solution showing depth and different colors.

CHA 2016 Chameleon Pen Demo and Five Pack Pen Giveaway

Here Julia is showing coloring a leaf using the Chameleon Pen as a standard marker without shading.

Using the Chameleon Pens with the blending solution to show shading.

Chameleon Pen Colored as layers

Here is a good comparison to the different coloring techniques used. On the right is a picture that shows the blending. It also shows the right side leaves, right leaf is the standard color without blending solution. The left side leaves, right leaf is showing the Chameleon markers used in layers to color and shade.

CHA 2016 Chameleon Pen Demo and Five Pack Pen Giveaway

Here is two different colors being used and shaded as a beautiful blend.

CHA 2016 Chameleon Pen Demo and Five Pack Pen Giveaway

Here is a beautiful picture of how Julia showed how you can get lovely dimension. You do this by highlighting the inside of an item. You can also do this by deepening the color around the edges to emphasize the shape (round) of an item or picture.

Now for the Giveaway part! We are doing a giveaway!
