Die Cuts Used as Masks

Die Cuts Used as Masks is what we have for you today.

How many dies do you have? How often have you used your die cuts for things other than what they are actually made for? Well, I have an idea for you! Why not try Die Cuts Used as Masks for your creation? Imagine how many things you can do with this!!

Supplies Needed

A Creative Journey with Melissa Wedding and Celebrations Stamp Set

Stamp Block

Tim Holtz Silver Adirondack Ink

Two Punches One size smaller than the other or die cuts

Die

Ink applicator

Removable Adhesive

Foam square

Scissors

Cereal Box or chip board

Paper to stamp and mat

Twine

Card Base

Protected work surface

Manual Die Cut Machine (Sizzix)

This is a close up of the A Creative Journey with Melissa Wedding and Celebrations Stamp Set. It is wonderful for any celebration! You can make your own toast to celebrate!

This is the card I created. If you have watched my videos before, you would know that I like to show my mistakes so that you can learn like I do.

My tongue twisting and lack of speaking properly is for your entertainment! LOL

If you noticed, the middle diamond has a little bit of bleed over of the ink. The solution? Use adhesive and push down so that none of the ink will bleed through and also use LESS INK so it doesn’t pool. You can always add more in layers.

To begin, take out your cereal box or chip  board, die and your manual die cut machine.

This is a MAGNETIC platform by Sizzix. I can’t possibly do it justice. It’s awesome and I love it! I have the larger one as well as this one. Really, I don’t need two but because they came out with the first one which was smaller and then later came out with the larger one.

If you have a choice, purchase the larger one.

This platform keeps your dies in place while you are trying to cut. It is perfect when you are trying to use scraps on your creation and need to use a certain amount of space.

Start with your platform whether it is magnetic or not. Add your clear platform on top of it.

Place your cereal box or chip board down on the clear platform.

Using the cutting side of the die, be sure it is face down on the material you want to cut.

Notice the area where it is poking up? That is the cutting side so you want to put that face down.

Here your die is face down on to the material you want to cut.

Now you will place your second clear platform on top of your die cut. Place your items in the die cut machine.

Using the handle, rotate it so the die runs through the manual die cut machine.

This is the die and here are the die cuts I created using the cereal box for the Die Cuts Used as Masks.

Take out your card base and adhesive.

Place adhesive on the back of the dies. Be sure you place adhesive on the edges.

Press down on the die cuts to ensure their adhesion. You are now going to see how you will create Die Cuts Used as Masks.

Take out your ink and applicator. Add ink to your applicator.

Add ink to your card base.

Here is the finished inked card base. Set this aside.

Take out your A Creative Journey with Melissa Wedding and Celebrations Stamp Set ink, stamp block and paper to stamp on. Place your sentiment on the block and ink your sentiment.

Place your foam square on the back of your sentiment. Mount your sentiment to the gray colored mat.

Take out your twine. Wrap your twine around your sentiment. Tie your twine in a knot and trim excess.

Here is where the magic is revealed! Remove your Die Cuts Used as Masks.

This is what it looks like without the masks!

If there is some adhesive residual, rub it off or you can use an adhesive eraser. If the ink is still wet, you may get some smearing.

Take out your adhesive. Place adhesive on the back of your sentiment.

Adhere your sentiment to the card base.

You have completed your creation for the Die Cuts Used as Masks!
