Crafty Tool Box Must Haves

Crafty Tool Box Must Haves is what we have for you today. Do you have a tool or item that you HAVE TO HAVE when you are crafting? I do too! Today I am going to share with you mine and hopefully you will be inspired to share yours as well!

Here are all of my must haves. I have a few more that I like to use a lot from time to time but these are THE HAVE TO HAVES!

A Creative Journey with Melissa Stamp Sets

Stampin Up Stampin mist and Stampin Scrub

Tim Holtz Mini Stapler

Scotch Advanced Tape Glider (ATG Gun)

Memento Ink

Quick Kutz Quicker Poker Picker Upper

Spellbinders

I know it seems like I of course have to say my stamps but I really do love our stamps and use them all of the time! We are coming out with new ones so I am very excited for what this year is going to bring! Stay Tuned!!

Twine Twine MARVELOUS TWINE!!!

Stampin Up Stampin Scrub Pad and Stampin Scrub cleaner.  I use this for ALL of my stamps. It works great, cleans wonderfully and doesn’t dry my photo polymer stamps! If you need to check some items out, please be sure to go to my friend Brandie’s website HERE.

Memento Ink…. I use black the most but basically every color I have used works perfectly! This ink works great with alcohol ink markers too. You just can’t go wrong with crisp images!

Tim Holtz Mini Stapler is a perfect addition as it allows you to add a little bit of ephemera (crafty stuff lol) to your project or you can create a pocket or attach a ribbon.

Notice how small the staple is? It is so cute and super strong!

I love how wonderfully this works on all of my crafty project! Works wonderfully and you can get generic adhesive to save money!

My favorite way to add a little bling to a project is my Gelly Roll clear star pen. Nothing like a little bling for my crafty creation!

I love the Quicker Picker Poker Picker Picker Upper!

Not only does it have a pointy end that you can use for your weeding with your dies and intricate cuts, you have the other side to use for picking up your rhinestones! But wait…. THERE IS MORE!

On the other end, it has a type of clay like material that allows things to stick to it without residue. You turn the cap and can get more. If you want to get rid of what is on there, you can just rub it off, twist the top and get a new fresh start of sticky stuff! COOL, RIGHT?!

Last but not least we have the Spellbinder Tool ‘N One tool. I love it! It is great for getting multiple pieces out of of small intricate dies, It has a great pointy tool as well as a spatula to lift off any paper or rhinestones! Truthfully, I can’t pick between either the Tool ‘N One or the Quicker Picker Poker Picker Upper so I keep them both in my tool box!

SUPER EASY Five Minute Watercolor Backgrounds

SUPER EASY Five Minute Watercolor Backgrounds is what we have for you today. Do you want a fun project to do that even kids can help with? This is it! Just in time for spring break! Make your own watercolor backgrounds and make it a family CREATIVE event! This is SUPER EASY clean up and SUPER EASY to do because your clean up is minimal and you only need a few supplies!

Supplies needed for the SUPER EASY Five Minute Watercolor Backgrounds Project

Acrylic Stamp Block or palette

Tim Holtz weathered wood distress ink

Water

Paint Brush

Paper**

** I used standard 60 pound card stock. If you don’t use watercolor paper, your paper will more than likely warp. Once you have completed coloring, you can place the paper between two books and that will solve the problem of warping. This also solves the issue of using expensive watercolor paper and being able to use standard card stock on your SUPER EASY Five Minute Watercolor Backgrounds Project.

Using your paint brush, add some water to your acrylic block. You will be using your acrylic stamp block as a palette for your ink.

Take your brush and lift off some of the color from the ink pad to your block. Repeat as necessary to get the desired amount of color. You can also ink the acrylic block before adding water if you wish to add more color first then add the water. Either way will work fine. On the block it doesn’t look like there is any color but there is.

Using the water and ink, brush over your paper making fluid strokes. If you like the look of the brush strokes on your paper, use less water for that effect.

Here is the finished light background on your paper for your SUPER EASY Five Minute Watercolor Backgrounds Project.

Here are both of the finished SUPER EASY Five Minute Watercolor Backgrounds Projects. Super fast! What are you going to do with this idea? I can’t wait to hear what project you plan to use this SUPER EASY Five Minute Watercolor Backgrounds technique!

Quick and Easy! Coffee Cup Embossed Recycled Packaging Gift Card Holder

Quick and Easy! Coffee Cup Embossed Recycled Packaging Gift Card Holder is what we have for you today. I love to reuse packaging for my crafts. This is a tutorial on how to do just that!

Supplies Needed for the Quick and Easy! Coffee Cup Embossed Recycled Packaging Gift Card Holder Project

A Creative Journey with Melissa Snowflake Beauty Stamp Set

Acrylic Stamp Block

1.25″ Circle Punch

Sizzix Die # 660281 Box and Card Die

Sizzix or manual die cut machine

Scissors

Paper to stamp image on

Green Ink

.75″ x 12″ strip of patterned paper

Tim Holtz Coffee Cup Embossing Folder

Red Tape – Strong adhesive for the packaging

Adhesive for adhering paper to the box

IF YOU ARE HERE FOR THE 2017 WINTER COFFEE LOVERS BLOG HOP PLEASE CLICK HERE. You are of course welcome to check this post out too and enter to win the prize on this post as well! If you aren’t.. Be sure to check it out as you can see lots of coffee project inspiration as well as win a number of prizes from some great sponsors!

To begin the Quick and Easy! Coffee Cup Embossed Recycled Packaging Gift Card Holder project, Take out your paper to stamp on, your acrylic block and your A Creative Journey with Melissa Snowflake Beauty Stamp Set.

Adhere your stamp to your acrylic block. Take out your green ink.

Stamp your snowflake onto your paper. I made a few extra so I can have them on hand in case I need to create an extra card.

Punch your snowflake images out with your circle punch.

This is a die inside it’s clear plastic packaging. When I get dies like this, I take them out of their packaging and cut the parts of the packaging that could be used in a die cut machine at a later time and set them aside. You would be amazed at how many times I have used them on my projects.

If you haven’t heard of this before, search in the box above or click on the menu for the icon and search for packaging and you will  find a few tutorials for some other ideas.

Here is a piece from a longer die that I have kept. This is what we are going to use to die cut our Quick and Easy! Coffee Cup Embossed Recycled Packaging Gift Card Holder Project. Sometimes you may have some blemishes on the packaging. You can solve that issue by embossing it!

Take out your manual die cut machine, two clear platforms and your die. Place a clear platform down on the base of the die cut machine. You will then place your die, clear recycled sheet of packaging and then your second clear platform. Using the handle, run your packaging through the die cut machine.

This is what it will look like once you have done that.

Take out your coffee cup embossing folder, regular platform, two clear platforms and your die cut machine. You can emboss just one side of your box like shown or you can do the entire box by folding your clear sheet in half and placing it in the folder.

This is what it looks like once it has been embossed!

Fold your box where all of the creases are from the die cut.

Take out your red tape or other strong adhesive.

Cut two pieces and adhere the two pieces of adhesive to the side of the box.

Remove the red protective piece revealing the adhesive.

Press firmly on the side of the box to the adhesive side ensuring its adhesion creating the box. You may lightly see some of the adhesive. If you do not care for that look, you can place paper on the outside of the box to cover it if you think it is too obvious. I personally thought it looked fine.

This is the die cut and embossed box before it has been put together completely and decorated.

Take out your strip of paper.

Using the gift card holder, measure how large of a piece you will need to wrap it around so it overlaps a little bit.

Trim excess paper off of your creation.

Apply adhesive to the back of the decorative paper.

Wrap your paper around the box ensuring the paper has adhered to the gift card holder.

Take out your stamped image, 3-D foam piece and box. Remove the adhesive back to the foam piece.

Place the foam piece on the back of the stamped image. Place the stamped image on the Quick and Easy! Coffee Cup Embossed Recycled Packaging Gift Card Holder Project.

Your Quick and Easy! Coffee Cup Embossed Recycled Packaging Gift Card Holder Project is complete!

Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

Childhood Cancer Awareness Month Card is what we have today. I was on Facebook a few days ago and saw this incredible video by a Mom of a son, Mason, that passed of Cancer.

To watch her video and learn about her story go to Baby Mason’s Mom’s video.

It moved me to tears and educated me. I was surprised I didn’t know these statistics. They are staggering. Did you know that every day 43 children are diagnosed with cancer? Of those children diagnosed, 12% do not survive! Cancer remains the number one death by disease for children. Although there have been great advances in the last five decades the number of diagnoses has not reduces in the past twenty years.

For more information on Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and what you can do, please go to Cure Search for Children’s Cancer.

Now that I have helped to educate you about Childhood Cancer, now I am going to educate you on how to create this cool card. Let’s get started!

Supplies Needed for the Childhood Cancer Awareness Month Card Project

A Creative Journey with Melissa Awareness Ribbon Set #2

Acrylic Stamping Block

Card Base

Paper to Stamp Sentiment

Paper to Mat Sentiment

Y03 Chameleon Pen

Adhesive

3-D Foam Square

Memento Ink

Tim Holtz Distress Marker Spritzer

This is the card we are creating. We used the sentiment from the A Creative Journey with Melissa Awareness Ribbon Set #2

This is a close up of the stamp set. As you can see, there are multiple creative uses for this awesome stamp set.

This is the awesome Tim Holtz Distress Marker Spritzer we are using for the background on the Childhood Cancer Awareness Month Card Project.

As you can see in the chamber of the tool, it is adjustable by using the screw on the side to tighten the pen or marker you place inside.

One of the amazing things about this tool is that it is adjustable for just about any pen or marker size. It has a removable chamber that allows you to use larger markers!

This is the Chameleon Pen we are using for this project. Next to it on the right is a thick marker used for elementary schools. This awesome tool will work with THOSE TOO!!

For this project you will not need the blending solution cartridge so you can set it aside.

Take your Chameleon Pen and slide the marker, tip first, into the pen holding chamber.

You will want to make sure that the pen is lined up so that you can get the air to splatter the ink. The above close up is a great example of how to do so.

The bulb on the end is what you squeeze to get the air to blow onto the ink causing your splatter effect.

With just a few squeezes, this is how it looks! You can add additional colors for other projects to add a really cool multi color effect.

This is what it looks like when it has been completed.

You can see the difference in how much I used the background color on the first versus the second background. This is where your creative input comes in. There isn’t a wrong way!

Now to start putting together the Childhood Cancer Awareness Month Card Project, take out your A Creative Journey with Melissa Awareness Ribbon Set #2  stamp set.

Ink your sentiment,

Stamp your sentiment on your paper and set it aside.

Place adhesive on the back of your mat paper.

Adhere your mat paper to your card base.

Place your 3-D foam squares on the back of your stamped sentiment. Put your sentiment on top of the mat paper as shown.

You did it! You created this adorable CAS (Clean and Simple) card for your Childhood Cancer Awareness Month Card Project.

Now for this weeks GIVEAWAY!

The Chameleon Pen set of 5 Pen Pastel Tones is what we are giving away this week!!

Save Money Create Custom Ribbon

Save Money Create Custom Ribbon is what we have for you today. Do you ever want to have a specific color of ribbon for a project and don’t know what to do? NOW you have your answer! It is super easy and you can do multiple ribbons at a time so you can have some on hand!

Supplies Needed for the Save Money Create Custom Ribbon Project

Adirondack Ink

Protected Work Surface

Rubber Bands

Rayon Ribbon

Alcohol and Paper Towels or the like for clean up

This is just one example of what you can create with the Save Money Create Custom Ribbon Project!

Are you ready to get creative? LET’S GET STARTED!

Take your ribbon and fold it in whatever way you wish. I folded mine back and forth over itself so i had a stack of ribbon approximately 3 inches wide. Depending on how you fold it will depend on how the color creation turns out on your Save Money Create Custom Ribbon Project.

Take your rubber band and wrap it around your ribbon. Remember any place your rubber band is will have little or no color.

This is a close up of what I did when I wrapped my rubber bands around the ribbon.

Start your Save Money Create Custom Ribbon Project by adding the first color to your ribbon. I used aqua for my first color.

Here I added my second color Red Pepper.

For my third color, I added Sandal.

If you have any mess at any time while you are creating your Save Money Create Custom Ribbon Project, don’t forget your alcohol!

The alcohol takes any of your ink mess away in seconds!

Now we are going to re-create this beautiful custom ribbon for our Save Money Create Custom Ribbon Project.

The three inks I used to create this ribbon were the raspberry, wild plum and purple twilight Tim Holtz Adirondack ink.

Add the ink in various places to create your design.

The more you add the darker or more colorful your Save Money Create Custom Ribbon Project will be.

Once you have finished adding the ink, you will want to set it aside to dry. As you can see, the newly inked ribbon on the left is darker than the dried one on the right. Once it dries, the colors will be similar to the right side.

This is what it looks like when it has dried and comparing both the dried one and the newly inked one after 10 or so minutes. Crazy how just a little drying time changes it, right?

Here I had created ribbon using military colors. I went a little bit darker than I would have liked but it still came out pretty cool. What do you think?

When I moved the ribbon, I saw this beautiful color! What a perfect time to grab another piece of ribbon and take advantage of the situation and create more!

The ink on the table just screamed to me that it needed ribbon to clean it up!

I also added some additional color to make the ribbon a little less dark for my military creation. I love the colors!

Here the rubber band ribbon creation has had a little time to dry. I am going to take out the rubber band.

This is what it looked like once I took off the rubber band.

Here are the various color creations I made for the Save Money Create Custom Ribbon Project! The possibilities are endless!

Now, for the GIVEAWAY!

The winner is Robyn T!

We hope you enjoyed our Marbleize Paper using Shaving Cream Project! Have a wonderful week and thank you for going on A Creative Journey with Melissa.

Marbleize Paper using Shaving Cream

Marbleize Paper using Shaving Cream is what we have for you today! This technique is not only cool but has awesome results! Great ready to get creative and messy!

This is the creation I made. We will be creating the Marbleize Paper using Shaving Cream background paper.

Supplies Needed for the Marbleize Paper using Shaving Cream project

A Creative Journey with Melissa Sign Language Sentiments 2

Hazelnut, Oregano and Mushroom Tim Holtz Adirondack Ink

Shaving Cream

Paper Towels and lots of them

Platter or tray

Toothpicks

Popsicle sticks

Photo Paper/Glossy Paper

Isopropyl Alcohol for clean up

You can use regular card stock for this technique (on the right) however, I prefer the glossy paper (on the left) because I think it looks more vibrant.

Take out your platter and shaving cream.

Put shaving cream all over your platter.

Spread the shaving cream on  your platter all over the bottom of the tray. I used a popsicle stick to spread the shaving cream. This will allow for two pieces of paper to fit onto the tray at the same time.

Add the hazelnut ink to the shaving cream. I added lines of ink to the left side and dots on the right to get two different looks in the same tutorial.

Oregano is the second ink you will add to your shaving cream.

Add Mushroom to your shaving cream.

Using a popsicle stick, spread the ink so it is mixed up. You can do this as much or as little as you want depending on the look you want.

On the right I used the toothpick to give a different look and texture to the shaving cream mix.

I decided to add a little more ink for my Marbleize Paper using Shaving Cream project so if you choose to do the same, YOU CAN!

Mix it up to your liking!

Take out your glossy paper. Place your paper on top of the right colored area.

In this case, we had two areas I wanted to focus on. Place your second piece of paper in the area in which you want the color from.

Push the paper into the shaving cream to get a little more color and effect to the paper.

This is what it looks like once you have removed the paper from the shaving cream. You see why it’s messy now right? LOL

I decided I am going to add even a little more color so here I go adding some dots of alcohol ink!

This is what it looks like after I have added more ink with the shaving cream!

NOTE:Typically, I will do a lot of these at once so I only have to clean up once. If you are doing multiples, I would suggest you do all of the shaving cream and then go back to each step all at once for each creation.

Now it is time to clean off the paper. Place a few paper towels on your work surface. Place your shaving cream colored area face down on the paper towel. Fold the paper inside the paper towel to cover the whole thing.

Starting from the inside toward the outside, smooth out the paper allowing the shaving cream to go to the outside edges.

Open up the paper towel.

This is what it looks like once removed from the paper towel.

Wipe off any excess shaving cream or ink from the back of the paper as well.

I love how the paper that I added more ink to turned out. This looks like a piece of granite to me!

You have finished the Marbleize Paper using Shaving Cream project! Here are all of the varieties I create using the same ink and shaving cream. All I did was create different patterns! Pretty cool, huh? What do you plan on creating using this technique?

Now, for the GIVEAWAY!

This week we are giving away the A Creative Journey with Melissa Sign Language Sentiments 2 as featured in this post and the above video!!

Color Designs – Tim Holtz Adirondack Ink and an Embossing Folder is what we have for you today. How would you like to create your own backgrounds with color and adding texture? That is exactly what we are going to do today!

First, I want to ask for your help. Tracy Zahm who was on our Creative Crew has asked for help. Her best friends nephew had a life altering accident. She has asked if everyone could send a card. He really enjoys getting cards and thought it would be a great way to cheer him up. If you could do this and feel free to share, that would  be AWESOME!

Please send the cards to:

Chad Mason

C/O Shirley Ryan Ability Rehab

Room # 2522

355 E Erie Chicago, IL, 60610

Are you ready? You can use the Color Designs – Tim Holtz Adirondack Ink and an Embossing Folder technique on a card for Chad! Let’s get Creative!

Supplies Needed for Color Designs – Tim Holtz Adirondack Ink and an Embossing Folder

Isopropyl Alcohol

Aqua Tim Holtz Adirondack Ink

Sandal Tim Holtz Adirondack Ink

Red pepper Tim Holtz Adirondack Ink

To begin your Color Designs – Tim Holtz Adirondack Ink and an Embossing Folder technique take out your embossing folder, inks and paper.

NOTE: On all embossing folders they have two sides to them that you then sandwich your paper in between them. The Embossed side will have the creation poking out toward you when it is done with the ink on that side. The Debossed side will have the indented side toward you when it is done with the ink on that side. Make sure you put your ink on the side you want the type of embossing/debossing done.

Uncap your Aqua Ink and put various spots of ink on the side of the embossing folder you want to use for your creation. You can make it in a pattern or just a random look is nice too. Be sure to recap it once you are done.

Uncap your Sand ink and put various spots of ink on the side of the embossing folder you want to use for your creation as you did with the previous color and recap it.

Take out your Red Pepper ink, uncap it and put various spots of ink on the side of the embossing folder you want to use for your creation as you did with the previous colors and recap it.

Place your white paper on top of the inked area. Press down with your hand so the paper is in place and starts to make it’s design.

Close the embossing folder. Get out your manual die cut machine and the proper platforms.

Place all but the clear platform down on your sizzix manual die cut machine (or a like machine.) Put your embossing folder on top of the main platform as shown.

Place your clear platform on top of the embossing folder.

Run your embossing folder and appropriate platforms through your manual die cut machine.

The ink has soaked through the back of the paper of your Color Designs – Tim Holtz Adirondack Ink and an Embossing Folder technique. This is the BACK of the design.

This is the front of the design for the Color Designs – Tim Holtz Adirondack Ink and an Embossing Folder technique. Both look equally as great! The only difference is the texture.

Here is a close up of the texture and color.

Here are both of my examples. On the one to my right, I used more ink and less on the left one.

You are probably thinking to yourself GREAT Color Designs – Tim Holtz Adirondack Ink and an Embossing Folder technique Melissa but now what do I do with this multi colored embossing folder?

Don’t worry! I have you covered! This is where the Isopropyl Alcohol comes in. You are going to pour a small amount on your embossing folder. Using a sturdy rag (I used a clorox wipe with the alcohol. The paper towels will shred from the texture of the embossing folder) wipe off both sides of the embossing folder.

One cleaned with alcohol, use a paper towel to pat dry the inside. If you still see some ink on your embossing folder, repeat. ALL of the ink will come off.

You are all set with your Color Designs – Tim Holtz Adirondack Ink and an Embossing Folder technique and have already cleaned up!

CHA 2016 – Going on A Creative Journey with Melissa

Hi All,

I AM AT CHA 2016 I am having a great time and wish you were all here to be able to experience this first hand at least once. But before I go on, I would like to apologize because I said I would be giving you sneak peeks and of all times, my website has been down since Thursday. Needless to say, I haven’t been able to post anything to my website so I apologize for this being late. What a nightmare that was! I have however, posted on my Instagram as well as my Facebook business page if you would like to check those out. Those would be more timely than my blog posts as I do my blog posts once I am home to recap my day.

Sooooo if you weren’t able to come to CHA 2016 or haven’t been to CHA at all or don’t know what it is, here is an explanation in a nutshell. CHA is the acronym for the Craft and Hobby Association. It is an organization where creatives, manufacturers, designers and more :),  of all different areas of crafts whether it be paper crafts, knitting, painting, jewelry and basically anything crafty and creative, come together from ALL OVER THE WORLD. They hold various conferences throughout the year. This specific show is one of the largest of it’s kind and for the last year it is being held at the Anaheim Convention Center. Next year, it will be held in Arizona. In order to be a member there are certain prerequisites. To find out more information if you qualify, please go here. If you happen to sign up, tell them I sent ya!

Part of being a CHA member and it’s membership cost includes education. They are really great about offering education classes for people that want to learn more about the industry, mentoring from fellow creatives in your field and getting you in contact with who you need to talk to if you have questions. The wealth of knowledge in the CHA organization as a whole is vast and wonderful to have when you are a new business starting out or an established business looking to boost your sales to a higher level. I have been a member for a number of years taking classes as well as enjoying the show. I went on Thursday and Friday for classes and the show floor opened yesterday. The classes are great for business owners like myself where you can learn things that you normally wouldn’t be able to do so. For example, I have a stamp line and would be able to ask questions to fellow stamp line owners, manufacturers, designers, web designers, attorneys, etc., questions about my personal situation and be able to get real answers as they are all within the industry that I am. It is UNBELIEVABLY instrumental in my business adventure. I have met a number of what I call lifetime friends too!

Yesterday I took a bunch of pictures at CHA 2016. have consolidated them down to a few below. I went to CHA this year with my awesomely supportive husband and son. I was excited that my son was old enough to be able to attend. It is cool to show him this side of things and that I am NOT the only one that is creative minded. Although to be honest, he is too so he TOTALLY gets it! As you will see, we got the “C” (Christian) and the “J” (Jon) of ACJwM (A Creative Journey with Melissa) in on the action. My hubby and son were my “posers” in pictures! LOL I also was fortunate enough to have a few of my AMAZINGLY talented Creative Crew along to check out the new things and see what THEY would like to work with next year as well as ideas and trends that are going on in the industry. Leticia, Marie and Rhoda are joining me this year. Unfortunately, Brandie is unable to attend due to a health issue so we DEFINITELY want to wish Brandie to feel better and be back on her feet soon.

First, I want to share with you a few things I learned in my classes. Here are a few DID YOU KNOW…. Please feel free to share!

In a class that my husband took, they said at least 500 words. Sounds to me if you stick between 500-3000 you will have it covered varying between them throughout your different blog posts. This is what my plan is.

Now for some pictures. One of the amazing creatives that I love to see is Tim Holtz. He is so kind, amazingly creative and very good to his fans. He truly appreciates our admiration. Here he was showing his distress crayons. They look FABULOUS!!! A must have for sure!

We took a very inspirational class from Kathy AKA Crafty Chica. She is so wonderful, kind and inspirational. Her story is amazing and really goes to show that hard work, dedication and perseverance pays off.

I of course stopped by Doodlebug Design because I LOVE THEIR COLOR PALETTE! ALWAYS. PERIOD! Adorable designs with awesome colors. Can’t go wrong with that!
